Best Olevia 542i 42-Inch LCD HDTV Review

Well let me begin stating that I have owned several TV's, Im quite the Sony costumer...UNTIL I FOUND OLEVIA!!!!!!!!!!
Been a Sony owner, sometimes is difficult to find a better standard in TV's, but my Bravia 42" went to the toillet, last year. I thought to wait a little to see how technology developed in the HD field. I did not came to Olevia as a choice, but rather than TRY. A short Story:
After my Sony Bravia TV went to the trash(this was my bedroom TV) I did not had a tv for my Bedroom, so the same day it died, I headed to the store to purchase a new TV. I was ready for another Sony, but I went to Walmart for some ciggys, and decided to see what they have to offer in the TV market. Im a Sony Store customer, so buying from Walmart to me was kind of risky, but hey, a look don't kill. While checking the Tv's I saw sharp, panasonic, and some brands I have never heard of, and I came across this Olevia TV. At first I did not have heard of this brand before, but as reading on the product description on the box, well I thought, can't be that bad, and since I was looking for a transition TV, the price was tempting. I went and bought it, without any extended guarantee, or anything. Ok, TV was heavy, unlike any other Sony TV's I have ever own including a Trinitron 36'' I had a long time ago. Well to make a long story short, this TV' has lasted more than a year with FLAWLESS performace, using HDMI and SVIDIEO inputs. Picture STUNNING... even on S-Video connection, but I was bown away with the HDMI connection. I am very picky when it comes to picture display even thou this TV is not 1080p, the 1080i performance is incredible, picture quality and sound will get you blown! If you can find this model at a good price... you'll not regret it!!!!!

Great for the price! - D. Fantasia -
Bought this for 799 on a day after Thanksgiving Day sale. The price was right and it was 2006 when we bought it so it has been 2.5 years. Last year the TV went out and we didn't know what to do. I think we found some board games under a pile of dust. Anyways, it was simple to take the TV down and replace the fuse that's in there although the only place that has one is radio shack as it's an odd size. Since then no problems as we have hooked it up though a battery backup box that conditions the line. For the price it was great, but the contrast has improved and 1080i was the only thing available back then. 1080i is outdated and and 1000:1 contrast is old school with 1,000,000:1 ratios out and about. Amazing for it's day with no regrets here.

Great Value - B. Meyer - Minneapolis, MN
I've had this set for almost 3 years now. In that amount of time I've never had a single problem that wasn't my own fault, and even those were easy fixes. For an entry level LCD this set will have most all of the features anyone would want, mainly IT LOOKS GREAT! Having said that, it stops looking great after a couple of years and learning more about the limitations of the entry level LCD market. Once you really look at the thing, all you're getting is a simple HD display without many bells and whistles.

Pros:
- Great display for the price
- Easy to use
- Remote is simple
- Built in tuner makes it ready for TV out of the box
- Plenty of input options
- Firmware upgradeable
- In house support (as long as the company is still around at least)

Cons:
- Lack of options in settings
- Very slow to turn on
- Simply ugly
- lots of spotlighting
- Bad contrast ratio
- take forever to scroll through inputs
- does not pass 5.1 or better audio through optical
- speakers are pretty bad

All in all, if this is going to be your first HDTV you'll be happy. If you're very finicky about your display you won't be very pleased. As I said, I've had this set for almost three years and I've been nothing but happy with it, it's just time for an upgrade to a fancier set.

Best LG 42LH50 42-Inch 1080p 120Hz Broadband LCD HDTV, Gloss Black Review

Our "not too old" Sony TV decided not to come on one day so we decided it was time to upgrade to something better. Were we in for a treat.
The previous reviewers have pretty much covered the basics of this TV, so I will relate my experience with it so far. I've had the TV for a couple weeks. I do not subscribe to any paid TV service (Cable, Satellite or FIOS) and have been relying strictly on digital OTA (Over The Air) for my TV channels. This TV displays OTA HDTV signals with unbelievable clarity. Also, it does a very good job with SDTV (480i) digital signals as well. I've watched 480i on other HDTV sets and was never as happy with the picture as I am with this one. Another surprise on this TV was how well it pulled in some analog stations from Canada.
I have a second HDTV tuner hooked up to the new TV via HDMI in order to utilize the guide and for scheduling recordings fro my VCR. Yes, my VCR! As I stated above, this TV handles 480i so well it makes VCR tapes bearable, even enjoyable! So, my VCR still has some use.
I have the TV hooked online via an Ethernet cable. I subscribe to Netflix and only have a 1 mps speed for my internet. Netflix does not look all that good at this speed, but is watchable, especially for animated kids shows. Having Netfix on your TV is awesome. The interface is so easy to use that our 6 year old had it down in no time. I also tried VUDU and found that the picture quality was much better than Netflix and was usable at my 1 mps speed. You-Tube was about the same as it is online - some videos looked OK, some don't.
I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to access and view files on my computer. You can view pictures, play background music while viewing slideshows, and view videos stored on shared folders on your networked computer or any type of memory device attached to the USB port, such as a thumb drive or external hard drive. I was a little disappointed that it would not play AVI files from my wife's digital camera, but I'm sure there's a solution. It will play WMV, other AVIs, and some DVD files I'd copied (VOB, I think).
Picture control is very good. I like the energy saving feature, but sometimes it seems the auto adjust feature leaves the screen a bit dark. I usually set it to medium or minimum, depending on the amount of light in the room.
The sound is OK. While it sounds good, there could be more control when watching online content. Sometimes the sound can be too loud for one video, then too low for another. Or even vary during a video. Hard to blame the TV though. The quality of the sound is good, not awesome but acceptable. If you want more, get a sound system.
The remote is a weak spot on this TV. I find myself hunting for buttons all the time. There is no natural flow to the buttons. The remote is very long and narrow, I cannot reach all most commonly used buttons with my thumb and I have big hands.
The inputs in back face the back so plan accordingly when mounting it to the wall.
The manual is on a CD, a printed one would have been better. There is an onscreen manual which isn't too bad though for most things.

Great Picture and Features - J. Lucas - Pittsburgh, PA
This 42 inch HDTV is a great combo with the internet for movies and sports. The Netflix feature is great and the picture is awesome. Widgets can be useful too. I like the ability to make adjustments to picture and the many hdmi inputs. There is also the abillity to output digital sound to your home theater system with the optical out. This is great if you dont have hdmi inputs on your surround sound amplifier. Overall my experience was great with amazon and Fifth Ave electronics. It was shipped right to my house in a few days.

Great Bang For The Buck! - Barbara W. Blaine -
This is a Great HDTV For the money 0.00 Free Shipping and No Tax. Picture quality is AMAZING. Sound is ok! You can always do better sound wise so I elected to go with the LG Surround Sound DVD with Ipod adapter. Now This Set Rocks! I much rather watch movies at home now as opposed to going out to a movie. With it being Netflix Ready I just plugged my Ethernet cable in and now I can watch all the free movies they have to offer. I got the Netgear 5 port so I can use my computer and TV at the same time with my DSL service. Best Investment I ever Made.

Plasma TV vs. LCD TV - which is right for you?

เขียนโดย kula | 13:46

If based solely on their appearance, one would think that does not distinguish between a plasma TV from a TV monitor. It 'true that both are very similar, especially when it comes to their size. Both are embedded as ultra-thin. Can afford thanks to technological advances, not jump like a relic bulkier CRT.

A CRT, as the name implies, uses a cathode ray tube. Consists of a bulky and heavy vacuum tube, thisBasically, the technology has been used since the beginning of the production of television sets. This technology is the same thing on the PC monitor Hulky are used. But since the beginning of plasma and LCD, various electronics companies reduced the production of CRT monitors.

There is no need for vacuum tubes, television had begun to take the slimmer and slimmer profiles. Obviously today's Plasma and LCD TV's thinnest Bank around. But it is alsofor displays in order to become more massive. For today, some of them can go anywhere from 42 centimeters to over a hundred centimeters.

However, plasma and LCD actually uses two different types of technologies. Many people often think that the plasma is just another name for the LCD. Therefore, with the intention of buying a TV, it is important to know what are their differences. We see very similar and usually have the same functions. But each has certainAdvantages over others.

The plasma technology is substantially similar to the one that uses fluorescent bulbs. The glass display is composed of small cells. During the manufacturing process, the gas injected into each of them, and captured by another glass. LCD used on the other side, "liquid crystals between two thin glass plates and the need for external lighting, as LEDs.

Plasma using a little 'close relationship with the technology of a CRT, which has somedisadvantages. For example, a plasma screen is the tendency to burn and screen generation of excessive heat. Even with the introduction of energy efficient plasma TVs, but they tend to consume more electricity than their LCD counterparts.

However, casting hand, had more disadvantages than advantages plasma to LCD televisions. For example, if you're a 42-inch or 50 inch monitor, then an LCD is recommended. But if you wantslightly higher than that, so the best thing is to get the kind of place to the plasma. This is due to the fact that it is better able to maintain the color and contrast of an LCD panel.

A plasma television has a wider viewing angle, so that clear images, no matter where you sit in front of him. An LCD, on the other side begins to show degradation of the image when viewed from a certain angle will be. It ends with images lacking in detail, with faded colors and contrasts. First introduced, bothPlasma and LCD were on the expensive side. These days, however, models more accessible adorn every household around the world.

Best Philips 42TA648BX/37 42" 1080p LCD HDTV Review

I purchased this product on Black Friday as an early Christmas gift. It's my first flat panel HD TV. I bought it on the specs, the Philips name and the price.

Set up was a snap. It took longer to get it out of the box than to get it operational. The remote is intuitive. The on screen menus are simple and straightforward.

For me coming from a traditional TV, the picture is outstanding. Colors are rich and lush. The blacks are black. The detail is amazing. You can see the pores on news anchors' skin. The screen is viewable from multiple angles.

Speakers are hidden within the unit's case. Sound quality is excellent.

Setting up other devices (DVD player, game console) was simple. It has more connectors than I expect I'll need (at least for now).

This unit provides a lot of value.

GREAT TV!!! - M. Singleton - Birmingham, AL United States
So far, so good! We love this TV. It is perfect for our family...the sound & picture are great. It's great for our games and movies too!

price vs. performance - N-da-O -
"I bought this tv a few weeks ago for our kids to use for their viewing. (XBOX 360/ WII, ..etc.) The XBOX 360 graphics when using HDMI are incredible.

Sound is good enough. FWIW, the headphone jack is a nice feature for use w/ wireless headphones. i.e. The kids can put on headphones and "voila!" peace and quiet.

HD channels are very crisp/clear. Standard def is pretty good also. (standard def depends alot on signal strength from your cable provider.)

Overall I gave the tv a 5-star rating b/c of the low price and reasonable performance ratio. This is not a high-end Sharp or Sony so I am not considering that in the review. It is however several hundred dollars less that the high end."
